Established in 1991, Restaurante Grano de Oro is a fine-dining restaurant located in a turn-of the century, tropical Victorian mansion. You’ll enjoy distinct dining experiences in our elegant inner Courtyard and grand Dining Room with an ambience that is unforgettable.
A most-cherished destination for locals and travelers alike Restaurant Grano de Oro began as a modest corner café in the pueblo of San José, primarily catering to its hotel guests. But once the locals tried the restaurant, they didn’t stop coming.
Led by Michelle and Ciro De Angelis, our menus offer combinations of seasonal, tropical, sustainable ingredients prepared with French Mediterranean techniques creating a unique and flavorful dining experience.
In house aged Costa Rican beef features prominently on our menu, while our sustainably caught seafood dishes favor the season. Our vegetarian and plant-based dishes are not only tasty but hearty and eye-pleasing.
Our award-winning Wine Cellar, curated by Ciro De Angelis, houses up to 2000 bottles and 185 labels —all hand-chosen to complement our menus. With a wide array of wines available by the bottle we also have an intriguing selection by the glass including several Premium wines.
In 2013 we were the first cellar in Costa Rica to win a Wine Spectator Award and have continued to win awards for the past 11 years.

Every choice we make in our kitchen is guided by our commitment to sustainability, excellence, and community impact. We take pride in working with local, small-scale producers like fishers, farmers, and growers. Many ingredients we use are cultivated just a half hour outside of San José.
